What We Do

Collaborating with our partners, donors, and staff, GMUL offers programs in education and employment that open doors to opportunities that give individuals and families the chance to improve their lives and their community. Our advocacy and civic engagement efforts tackle serious issues impacting the community and seek partnerships and solutions to successfully address them.

High School Student

Education

Greater Milwaukee Urban League education programs effectively assist youth through programs including, individual school partnerships with Milwaukee Public Schools; STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs; peer mentoring; and a laptop and scholarship awards program for graduating seniors.

Employment

Our employment programs help individuals evaluate their job skills; connect to training with partners; earn a driver’s license permit; and find transportation solutions for individuals working in areas not served by public transportation.

Advocacy

Advocacy is our newest program area. We are making a difference through our leadership in several programs areas including efforts to increase homeownership rates in African-American communities and improve health outcomes. GMUL continues our successful Get Out The Vote effort, which reached thousands of Milwaukee area residents and provided important information on voter rights and voting access in 2020.
