The Greater Milwaukee Urban League is pleased to present 10 - $1,000 scholarships to students who not only demonstrate scholarly achievement, but who also believe in service to the community and advocating for equity for all.
To be eligible for consideration for this award, an applicant must:
Be a Milwaukee County college-bound high school senior or early graduating Junior who will graduate in May or
June 2024.
Show evidence [i.e., acceptance letters] or plans for full-time enrollment in a two or four-year college program in the following states: Wisconsin, Alabama or Mississippi.
Be able to attend a "Red Carpet Reception on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Note: If you are applying for a laptop or scholarship only, select 1 (one) issue, if you are applying for both a scholarship and laptop, you must complete a minimum 400-word essay on two (2) issues listed below.

Loss of Diversity Programming in institutions of higher learning and employment

Answers must be a minimum of 400 words, and be specific in your “why” and “how.” (i.e., “Why” this is important to you, and “How” you would address it.)
*If you have participated in any of the following youth programs with GMUL, such as Project Ready Mentor, Urban Youth Pathways, Graduate to Employment, Microsoft Certification, or Road Ready Youth Driver’s Education and you will automatically qualify for a laptop.

The following are the key dates to adhere to:
Friday, April 19, 2024: Application deadline at 4:00 pm
Friday, May 24, 2024: Award notification via email/USPS(Make sure your email/phone number is current!)
Wednesday, June 12, 2024 – 6:00 pm: Award presentation at TBD.
Please note: All awardees must be in attendance to receive their awards. Failure to attend will result in forfeiture of the award.

2024 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS CHECKLIST
ALL APPLICANTS (Must submit the checklist below.)
Application Form: All areas of the application form must be completed, signed and dated by applicant and their parent(s) or guardian(s).
Essay: Please select one of the following questions to answer in a minimum of 350 words:(ESSAY QUESTIONS TBD NOTE FOR EDITING)
Recommendation Letters: Two (2) signed letters of recommendation from school administration, teacher or school staff person(s) or from community representatives (for example: clergy, employer, youth group leader, etc.) who can attest to applicant's qualifications for the selected category (1,2, or 3). Letters from family members or friends are not acceptable.
Applicant's essay must state essay question as the title/heading and be neatly typed in Arial or Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with applicant's name, contact information, high school, and word count in the top right corner of each page. (Minimum 350 words or 400 words depending on the essay question chosen)
Official Transcript (if available) emailed or mailed in a Sealed Envelope: All transcripts must include information on applicant's most recent available grade period and reflect a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Only transcripts that are stamped with the high school's official seal.
